Our weekend

Happy Monday everybody! Boy did the weekend seem to fly by. We started with Colin's swimming lessons on Saturday morning. As we keep taking them Colin seems to dislike them more and more. Next week is the last lesson and we probably won't sign him up again for another class until the fall. As you can see by the pictures he wasn't too happy to be in the water. Yet, before and after the class he can't stop talking about going swimming. Go figure. Sawyer will probably take swimming lessons next fall as well, but we will be sure to get him in the pool sometime over the summer. Here is a picture of Sawyer enjoying swim class from his chariot.

I then left the boys to attend my friend Ashley's bridal shower and bachelorette party. We had a great time and no, I won't be posting any pictures :) Dustin survived his first overnight alone with the boys. They played outside all day and had a boys BBQ with hot dogs, although it sounded like Colin really just ate his bun dipped in ketchup.

On Sunday Dustin picked up his new toy down in Warrenton, VA. For years he has been talking about buying a trailer. He finally decided to do it and used it right away doing yard work over at the townhouse. Colin helped him clean it out afterwards. We are pretty sure he thinks he just got a new toy :)

And for all of you who have been asking about Colin's lawnmower. The next day I went ahead and bought a new one. It doesn't have as big of wheels as the old one, but it makes popping noises, so I think Colin likes it. Our neighbors made his day though and gave him an toy weedwacker that their son used to play with. All Colin wants to do is weedwack the yard and trees now. I will be sure to send out pictures of him using it soon, he absolutely loves it.

In Memoriam

We are in mourning today at the Best household. Yesterday afternoon while playing outside Colin's beloved lawnmower finally kicked the bucket. As many of you know, Colin's favorite toy in the whole world is his lawnmower. Dustin said there was nothing he could do, and Colin just kept saying "Fix it Daddy, Fix it Daddy". Unfortunately they don't make this type of lawnmower anymore (with the big wheels to go over grass) but the search begins today for a new one. Here is a picture of Colin in happier times with his lawn mower.

My First Blog - Dustin's Birthday Weekend

Well, I decided it was time to become a statistic and start a blog (1 out of 10 internet users has a blog). My step-sister-in-law Christy gave me the idea and her blog has been a great way for me to keep up-to-date with her family. This will also save my friends and family from receiving countless emails and large picture attachments from me.

So, onto the blog topic for today - Dustin's 30th Birthday Weekend. I have been planning his surprise trip for months (one of the few exciting things to do on maternity leave). I wanted us to get out-of-town, but stay close enough to the boys in case we needed to come home for an emergency. So.....Charlottesville, VA it was!

Our weekend started with a 3:45AM wake-up call. We hit the road at 4:30 and headed down to C-ville. At 6:30 we met up with a small group of people for Dustin's big birthday gift.....a hot air balloon ride! The ride was amazing, you don't even feel like you are flying, but it definitely went by too fast. Our weather was perfect, and we had awesome views of the mountains. My next surprise was our accommodations...a one-room cottage B&B about 10 miles outside of C-ville. I found it online and it was absolutely perfect. Our afternoon surprise was a wine festival that featured over 20 VA winery's. I can now say from experience that after 2 1/2 hours of wine tasting, everything sort of starts to taste the same. Our evening concluded with dinner in historic downtown C-ville.

Sunday was quite rainy, but we were able to get a few hours of clear weather for our visit to Monticello, which was very interesting and beautiful. We finished our weekend with a drive through the hills of southwestern VA on our way back home. Mom, Grandma & Donnie looked a bit tired from their weekend with the boys, but it sounded like everyone had a great time.

I don't have pictures of our weekend downloaded yet, but I will add them as soon as possible. I hope to update this blog weekly, or at least as exciting events happen to the Best Family. I hope this will be an easy
way for our families to keep track of us.
